Do you believe?

We have all heard the famous story about Scrooge and the three ghost of  Past, Present, and Future. There is no doubt that he was haunted but everything worked out well for him in the end.

However, what I am about to tell you is a real Christmas haunting. Do you believe?

In 1995, around Christmas, a person that goes by V., who lives in S. Dakota, had reported that a cousin had seen a ghostly figure standing to the left of him/her. This figure was apparently playing with his/her hair as V. put together a puzzle with an Uncle. The cousin has seen the figure through the window before coming inside.
The cousin asked who had been standing there but V. said there had been no one. Later the cousins presumed the ghostly figure to be the mother of the cousin who had died a few years earlier. Apparently this figure still comes around every year during Christmas.

The Historic Anchorage Hotel

In Anchorage, Alaska there is a hotel called The Historic Anchorage Hotel.
Registered with the National Registration for Historic Places, this hotel sits on the corner of 3rd and E Street in Anchorage. Built in 1916, the hotel boasted fine china settings and was the go to place for meetings and gatherings of the dignitaries and celebrities coming to Alaska.

The hotel capitalizes on its fame for ghost haunting. It is not unusual for paintings to fly off the walls or curtains to move by themselves. The most famous of the hauntings is the ghost of Anchorage's first police Chief, John J. "Black Jack" Sturgis.

On February 20, 1921 it was reported that the police chief had been shot by his own gun by an unknown assailant. He is said to be seen every year in the same location seeking justice for himself and to solve the crime.

Other reported activity has been a bride who committed suicide before her wedding who roams one of the halls, a guest who died in the hotel,  as does children who are heard playing in the halls. Other ghosts have been reported in several different rooms.

The hotel actually has a registry for those who to report the unusual happenings and encourages their guest to do so.

Aurora Hills Middle School

Do you think it  is only houses, castles, penitentiaries, and sanitariums that are haunted? Think again.
In Aurora, Colorado there is a middle school, Aurora Hills Middle, that has been purported to be haunted by a ghost that had moved from a jail to the school.

It has been reported that the school was built on the same land that an old jail had originally been built and a ghost resided. The jail burned to the ground and the school was built with parts from this facility.Apparently the ghost knew no difference and now haunts the school.

In addition, there is reports of a girl whom had drowned in a pool in 2006 that lived near the school. This girl named Annie is said to also roam the halls of the school.

Is all of this just the tall tales of kids who go to school there to scare their friends or is it the truth?

You decide.

A Castle In Franklin, Ohio

In the town of Franklin, Ohio, a man by the name of Hannes Tiedmann built a magnificent castle which featured twenty-one rooms, a wine cellar, a ballroom and secret areas which were supposedly for bootlegging. The year it was actually built is as conflicting as the home itself.
The castle has been home to many things over its passage of time but most notably it is "home" to the likes of several ghost who were either murdered or dies by diseases.

One of the most seen ghost in the home is that of a young girl who is tall and seen in all black. She was supposedly hanged in one of the secret passages. The mystery and stories surrounding her are vague and often conflicting but the fact remains, she is there for whatever reason.

Hannes Tiedmann's family was no stranger to death. His older teen daughter died from diabetes complications as well as three other children who died of unknown deaths. His wife died of liver failure. In addition, Hannes apparently shot and killed a mistress. All can be heard roaming the halls of Franklin Castle.

If this is not enough for the history of the castle, it is also was once headquarters for the Nazi's who mass murdered people there, ax murder took place there and mass killings of babies.
It is said that the Nazi's can still be heard having discussions throughout the halls and that the ax murder victim is often seen in the front window.  The discovery of  baby skeletons was discovered in 1970 with an entire room filled with the bones.

The Franklin Castle has been the site of an exorcism as well as scams and vandalism. The home has changed hands numerous times with the most recent purchase in 2011. None-the-less, the ghost still remain.

Caswell House

In a place called Newnan, Georgia there is a real haunted house called the Caswell House.
This house, now turned museum is owned and operated by the African American alliance and tells the raw history of slavery.

Built in the 1900's several people owned the home and land at various times. It is not well documented who actually owned the home over the years except for the original owners of Ruby and Hoyt Caswell who are brother and sister.

Behind the house is what they call the "shot gun house".  There is also a long forgotten slave cemetery. It is believed several slaves died here and may still roam around the grounds looking for their freedom.

In the main house roams the spirits of Ruby and her brother, Hoyt. Apparently, Ruby can be seen trying desperately to keep evil spirits out of her house. It is said she is also known to play with children that may visit the museum.

Would you want to live in one of these houses?

Did you know that all around the country there are people who want to buy real haunted houses?
Did you know that there are real estate agents who provide such a service?  It is true!

Some home owners looking to buy a house are actually looking for the total creep factor. They want to live among the non-living and sometimes pay top dollar to do so.  Real estate agents that specialize in selling the houses for the paranormal can make a mighty fortune in such a sale.

Don't believe me? Check out these real haunted houses for sale.

Per the listing-"Townspeople are hoping a developer will rescue the $995,000 property and make it a five-star resort and restaurant." source

This house for sale is famous because it was once the setting of the story for the "Headless Horseman". It is for sale for 1.2 million and it is said, you can hear the galloping in the middle of the night. source

For a cool 1.2 million this house called the "Surgeon's House" is set in Jerome, AZ which boast to be one of the most haunted towns around. This now bed and breakfast reportedly has several of the now not-so-living roaming its halls.source

This house is for sale at just under $1 million is not haunted. However, it still as listed as a "haunted " house because it was the double for the now well known real haunted house of Amityville Horror fame. By the way, the real Amityville house sold for $1.15 million. source

So, tell me, would you want to live in one of these houses?

The Blennerhassett Hotel

In West Virginia there is a historic hotel called the Blennerhassett Hotel that sits on the corner of Market and 4TH Street in downtown Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Opened in 1889, Blennerhassett Hotel welcomed many a traveler that came on the Northwestern Turnpike. The hotel is built in the Victorian style with beautiful red brick made from terracotta brick that gives it its reddish hue. This hotel hosted the likes of river men, railroad travelers and people traveling in horse and buggy.

With its rich history, is it so impossible that it is also haunted too?

Aside from the every day guest that frequent this beauty of a hotel, there is reportedly a variety of ghost that also 'live' here. A widely reported spirit is said to be a man in grey who is usually seen on the second floor of the hotel. Apparently, the elevator will make unplanned stops on this particular floor as well.

In the history of the hotel, there are reports of a woman who was killed in front of the hotel when a runaway driver killed her. Some people have seen this same woman crying and roaming the hotel. A young boy is sometimes seen too. Are they related?

One of the most reported haunted places in the United States is New Orleans.
Considering how old the city is, its reputation for voodoo and partying, it is really no wonder.

It is said that due to the dead having to be buried above ground because of water issues , they are unsettled and walk among the living. One not need to be scared of all but more like, aware.
Some noted hotels have great paranormal activities. I will share of a few with you.

This hotel at one point was actually a military hospital for the Confederate Army.  People staying here have reported blood on linens and walls appearing from nowhere. In addition, the groans of hurting soldiers can be heard, apparitions of soldiers and staff appear and disappear. There is even a report of the hotels elevator opening to reveal the whole original hospital.

The Goldfield Hotel

There are many hotels across the country that are synonymous with ghostly hauntings. Some famous and some not so famous. One such famous of hotels is located on highway 95 between Reno and Las Vegas in the town of Goldfield.

The Goldfield Hotel was built in 1907 with no expense spared as the cost topped up to $400,000. The hotel was built in the shape of a "U" so that all the hotel guest could have a window view of the town. Each room boasted having private bathrooms, plush carpeting and fine furnishings. Crystal chandeliers and even an elevator could be seen in the Goldfield. Being built of granite the hotel was made to last the sands of time.

Up through the Second World War, the hotel was in operation. The hotel was featured in several movies. It was sold in the early 2000's to a developer who was to return the hotel to its former glory. However, the triumphant return has not quite taken place. Could it be because it is haunted?

Several famous television paranormal investigators have done research in the hotel including TAPS, Ghost Hunters, and most recently in 2013, Ghost Adventurers. All have witnessed paranormal happenings but as with many television shows, these reports have varied.

What for yourself? What do you think? Tell me in a blog comment.

The Spirits Of Plantation Village

When you think of Hawaii you tend to think of beautiful waterfalls, luaus, gorgeous flowers and lovely island dancers. You generally think of beauty and peacefulness everywhere.

However, did you know that Hawaii boasts its own paranormal activity. With the multitude of different people that live on the islands beliefs and activity are a mainstay.

One such place is the Plantation Village. This is an old area of Oahu that is actually an outdoor history museum that tells the story of the small houses with in the village that produced sugar cane from 1850 to 1950.

When you tour the village you step back in time as you visit 25 homes from the plantation that has many personal belongings of the people that lived there. The visitor also gets to view various plants brought from the various countries by the immigrants that landed there.

It has been reported that each of the houses has spirits of its own. Which makes sense considering the age of the plantation and that they are all centrally located on one plantation. Apparently, in some of the houses doors open and close on their own.
Other reports have been in the dining hall where un-embodied people have been heard moving around.
What do you think? Would you visit?

The Molly Brown House

We often think that all haunted houses should be broken down or spooky looking in some sort of way.
Well, that is not usually true. In fact, many haunted houses are rather stately in nature and yet, are true haunted houses.

Take for example, the Molly Brown House in Denver, Colorado. Does it look like a haunted house to you?

Molly Brown House

Molly Brown's reputation is based solely on surviving the Titanic and rescuing other survivors. However, what about her house?

The house was built during the silver mining rush of the 1800's by Issac and Mary Large. However, it was sold to Molly Brown and her husband JJ when the Large's lost money in the silver mine crash in the early 1890's.  She owned it until she passed away in 1932.

It has often been reported that Molly, JJ, and their only child, Catherine can be seen roaming around the home and grounds. Catherine's room is usually the area where most of the sighting and paranormal activities have  occurred, windows and blinds sometimes raise by themselves.

The smell of pipe smoke can be smelled in the attic and basement of the home. This is said to be JJ who smoked in hiding from Molly who hated his smoking habits. Also the sound of piano music and rocking chairs moving on their own have been reported.

In addition to the Brown's, other ghostly figures have been seen roaming around the Molly Brown House, now a museum.

Molly's mother who lived with them, has been seen through a bedroom window.

A possible male servant has been seen in a mirror that hangs near the stately steps.

A lady in white, who seems to like the cameras because she has been captured on film, is said to frequent the dining room and often arranges the furniture in a fashion supposedly the way she likes.

Brooke's Ghost Story

Brooke is the writer for my next guest post. She found out the noises in her home were due to more than just a little settling. Read her story below!

When I was 7 my parents bought a small farm in northern Caldwell County. The house was hadn't been lived in for several years and in dire need of repair, but my folks were optimistic. The back porch had been walled in at some point and was being used as a family room, but oh the windows! There were no less than 15 windows in that room alone. My first time seeing the house was right after my parents closed on the house. We were remodeling and tearing out the old carpet in the family room and found this HUGE blood stain on the floor. After a frantic call to the realtor, we were assured this was just from skinning deer, so my parents continued the remodel and replaced the stained floor boards. The first few years in that house, we often experienced extreme temperature variations, and heard strange noises, etc. but my parents always said, "it's an old house, they aren't insulated well and creak."

I was about 14 when I saw my first ghost there. I had fallen asleep in the family room and woke up when I heard the back door close. I started to get up and go to bed. It was dark in the room but we had a security light in the back yard that shown through some of the windows. As I got up I looked out the windows and saw what appeared to be people, kids included, dressed in old fashioned frontier style clothing walking around in a procession style outside my house (it reminded me of a funeral). I was scared but wanted to find out why these people were walking around in my back yard, so I went to the door and opened it up. There was no one outside. I came back in and looked out again, only to still see the procession walk.

After that experience we regularly heard footsteps walking thought the house and closed doors would open, open doors would shut, things would be moved around nightly. I decided to research the area by talking to some of the older neighbors to find out from them what the back story to my house really was. According to one of the oldest neighbors, at some point our house had been the sight of a Night Rider raid in Caldwell County. The blood stain, according to the oldest neighbor was the remnants of a killing that had taken place there. She said that the family was buried somewhere on the property. She also asked me if we had seen a blood stain on the porch floor yet? When I told her yes we had, she said that no matter how many times the floor would be replaced, the stain always came back.

All the years spent exploring those woods I had never seen any sign of a cemetery. Then one fall, while exploring the woods behind my house, my nephew and I actually found a small family burial plot. There appeared to be 5 graves there. They had tombstones but the stones were so weathered we couldn't determine who they were any longer or how long ago they had died.

Ten years ago my mom and dad replaced the floor in their family room. When they removed the carpet, the area where the blood stain had been was discolored and much darker than the rest of the floor boards. Seems just as my neighbor had said, the stain was back.

Thank you Brooke for sharing your story with my friends and blog followers!

Shanna's Story

One of my readers from Facebook shared this story with me. I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to share with you! This is Shanna's story...

Growing up, my front yard was a an old graveyard. There are only two tombstones still standing, and

no one recalls the name of the family buried there. We never thought anything about white orbs of

light back then, but we never had much happen. My grandparents still live there to this day, and I live

on top of the hill now with my kids. I was about 9 when my parents divorced and we went to live with

my mom's parents. That's when my whole life changed. That house always gave me bad vibes when

we went to visit, but living there.... was like hell. You were never alone, and you never went to sleep

without a flashlight.

There were 4 soldiers upstairs, which I can still see clearly in my mind today... as well as a young

girl who looked amazingly like me, and an older woman who would stand peering out the window

scornfully. They were the good ones... There was pure evil in that old house too, and it is still there.
