The Blennerhassett Hotel

In West Virginia there is a historic hotel called the Blennerhassett Hotel that sits on the corner of Market and 4TH Street in downtown Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Opened in 1889, Blennerhassett Hotel welcomed many a traveler that came on the Northwestern Turnpike. The hotel is built in the Victorian style with beautiful red brick made from terracotta brick that gives it its reddish hue. This hotel hosted the likes of river men, railroad travelers and people traveling in horse and buggy.

With its rich history, is it so impossible that it is also haunted too?

Aside from the every day guest that frequent this beauty of a hotel, there is reportedly a variety of ghost that also 'live' here. A widely reported spirit is said to be a man in grey who is usually seen on the second floor of the hotel. Apparently, the elevator will make unplanned stops on this particular floor as well.

In the history of the hotel, there are reports of a woman who was killed in front of the hotel when a runaway driver killed her. Some people have seen this same woman crying and roaming the hotel. A young boy is sometimes seen too. Are they related?

What do you think? Would you check in here?

The Goldfield Hotel

There are many hotels across the country that are synonymous with ghostly hauntings. Some famous and some not so famous. One such famous of hotels is located on highway 95 between Reno and Las Vegas in the town of Goldfield.

The Goldfield Hotel was built in 1907 with no expense spared as the cost topped up to $400,000. The hotel was built in the shape of a "U" so that all the hotel guest could have a window view of the town. Each room boasted having private bathrooms, plush carpeting and fine furnishings. Crystal chandeliers and even an elevator could be seen in the Goldfield. Being built of granite the hotel was made to last the sands of time.

Up through the Second World War, the hotel was in operation. The hotel was featured in several movies. It was sold in the early 2000's to a developer who was to return the hotel to its former glory. However, the triumphant return has not quite taken place. Could it be because it is haunted?

Several famous television paranormal investigators have done research in the hotel including TAPS, Ghost Hunters, and most recently in 2013, Ghost Adventurers. All have witnessed paranormal happenings but as with many television shows, these reports have varied.

What for yourself? What do you think? Tell me in a blog comment.

The Spirits Of Plantation Village

When you think of Hawaii you tend to think of beautiful waterfalls, luaus, gorgeous flowers and lovely island dancers. You generally think of beauty and peacefulness everywhere.

However, did you know that Hawaii boasts its own paranormal activity. With the multitude of different people that live on the islands beliefs and activity are a mainstay.

One such place is the Plantation Village. This is an old area of Oahu that is actually an outdoor history museum that tells the story of the small houses with in the village that produced sugar cane from 1850 to 1950.

When you tour the village you step back in time as you visit 25 homes from the plantation that has many personal belongings of the people that lived there. The visitor also gets to view various plants brought from the various countries by the immigrants that landed there.

It has been reported that each of the houses has spirits of its own. Which makes sense considering the age of the plantation and that they are all centrally located on one plantation. Apparently, in some of the houses doors open and close on their own.
Other reports have been in the dining hall where un-embodied people have been heard moving around.
What do you think? Would you visit?

The Molly Brown House

We often think that all haunted houses should be broken down or spooky looking in some sort of way.
Well, that is not usually true. In fact, many haunted houses are rather stately in nature and yet, are true haunted houses.

Take for example, the Molly Brown House in Denver, Colorado. Does it look like a haunted house to you?

Molly Brown House

Molly Brown's reputation is based solely on surviving the Titanic and rescuing other survivors. However, what about her house?

The house was built during the silver mining rush of the 1800's by Issac and Mary Large. However, it was sold to Molly Brown and her husband JJ when the Large's lost money in the silver mine crash in the early 1890's.  She owned it until she passed away in 1932.

It has often been reported that Molly, JJ, and their only child, Catherine can be seen roaming around the home and grounds. Catherine's room is usually the area where most of the sighting and paranormal activities have  occurred, windows and blinds sometimes raise by themselves.

The smell of pipe smoke can be smelled in the attic and basement of the home. This is said to be JJ who smoked in hiding from Molly who hated his smoking habits. Also the sound of piano music and rocking chairs moving on their own have been reported.

In addition to the Brown's, other ghostly figures have been seen roaming around the Molly Brown House, now a museum.

Molly's mother who lived with them, has been seen through a bedroom window.

A possible male servant has been seen in a mirror that hangs near the stately steps.

A lady in white, who seems to like the cameras because she has been captured on film, is said to frequent the dining room and often arranges the furniture in a fashion supposedly the way she likes.

Brooke's Ghost Story

Brooke is the writer for my next guest post. She found out the noises in her home were due to more than just a little settling. Read her story below!

When I was 7 my parents bought a small farm in northern Caldwell County. The house was hadn't been lived in for several years and in dire need of repair, but my folks were optimistic. The back porch had been walled in at some point and was being used as a family room, but oh the windows! There were no less than 15 windows in that room alone. My first time seeing the house was right after my parents closed on the house. We were remodeling and tearing out the old carpet in the family room and found this HUGE blood stain on the floor. After a frantic call to the realtor, we were assured this was just from skinning deer, so my parents continued the remodel and replaced the stained floor boards. The first few years in that house, we often experienced extreme temperature variations, and heard strange noises, etc. but my parents always said, "it's an old house, they aren't insulated well and creak."

I was about 14 when I saw my first ghost there. I had fallen asleep in the family room and woke up when I heard the back door close. I started to get up and go to bed. It was dark in the room but we had a security light in the back yard that shown through some of the windows. As I got up I looked out the windows and saw what appeared to be people, kids included, dressed in old fashioned frontier style clothing walking around in a procession style outside my house (it reminded me of a funeral). I was scared but wanted to find out why these people were walking around in my back yard, so I went to the door and opened it up. There was no one outside. I came back in and looked out again, only to still see the procession walk.

After that experience we regularly heard footsteps walking thought the house and closed doors would open, open doors would shut, things would be moved around nightly. I decided to research the area by talking to some of the older neighbors to find out from them what the back story to my house really was. According to one of the oldest neighbors, at some point our house had been the sight of a Night Rider raid in Caldwell County. The blood stain, according to the oldest neighbor was the remnants of a killing that had taken place there. She said that the family was buried somewhere on the property. She also asked me if we had seen a blood stain on the porch floor yet? When I told her yes we had, she said that no matter how many times the floor would be replaced, the stain always came back.

All the years spent exploring those woods I had never seen any sign of a cemetery. Then one fall, while exploring the woods behind my house, my nephew and I actually found a small family burial plot. There appeared to be 5 graves there. They had tombstones but the stones were so weathered we couldn't determine who they were any longer or how long ago they had died.

Ten years ago my mom and dad replaced the floor in their family room. When they removed the carpet, the area where the blood stain had been was discolored and much darker than the rest of the floor boards. Seems just as my neighbor had said, the stain was back.
