How The Story Unfolds...

I always loved  going to the South Street Seaport in Manhattan, Mystic Seaport in Conn, and Cold Spring Harbor with my parents when I was younger. My mom took us often to many of the historical spots that dot the East Coast and made us pretend we lived there. What kind of food would we eat, where would we get it? How would we travel? Why is location important? We drove down the east coast to Florida every year, and she would make us pretend to be soldiers  in the Civil War- How did it make us feel fighting another one our countrymen? Let's say we were brothers with opposing viewpoints? Just last week, she went with my kids and I to the Old Bethpage Restoration and we ate pretzels and birch beer in the 300 year old tavern. She made my children smell the smokey wood scent of the aged fireplace, walk in a corn maze, play a game of checkers on a cracker barrel.  We walked through the open air market and discussed what life would be like to live in a town like this in the 19th century. So, writing about life in older centuries is based on a lifetime of exercises into trips of imagination. We were not limited to the East Coast, we have been pioneers as well as Native Americans, and on vacations to Europe, we have thought about being anything from Vikings to Crusaders, Religious Reformists to serfs.  A simple game of placing myself into what a person was feeling during the time I choose to investigate, creates both the character and the story. When I write, I close my eyes, and rehash the long ago questions she made us ponder, and sure enough, personalities and situations begin to take shape, and the story unfolds. Join me October 16 to learn more about my new release and win some great prizes!

Haunted Caverns? Longhorn Cavern

Across the United States and around the world caves have been discovered containing natural riches. They have also been used for shelter by prehistoric, native people and beyond.

Photo Creative Commons/ by Angelia

Some of these caves have been noted to be haunted. One such place is the Longhorn Cavern in Burnet, Texas near Austin, Texas. The path above leads to the inside of the cave. The photographer who took the photo said there was no way to enter from here. She noted, "locked to keep people in or out?"

Some of the original inhabitants of the cave is the Comanche Nation. As they would have had sacred ceremonies here the imprints left in the cavern could be many. There have been sightings of Native Americans in the caverns as well as a noted lady in white.

Additionally, there have been rocks thrown, embodied voices, and children's laughter heard throughout the cavern as well as the ground itself, which is a whooping 645 acres.

Photo Creative Commons/Sam Bass
The cave has notable history which includes the legend of the outlaw, Sam Bass who robbed trains, stage coaches, and most noted the Union Pacific Railroad.

Legend has it that Sam Bass hid $2 million dollars in this cave but no evidence to date proves this.
However, he did leave a lasting legend and people flocked here. If he was indeed here, did he leave more than his money?

In the 1800's the cave was discovered by men who later fought for the Confederate Army. Here they use bat droppings to make gun powder that was used in the Civil War. Question remains what ghostly inhabitants where left here during one of the U.S. worst history as this was a major hideout for the Confederate Army.

Finally, in the 1920's when Prohibition was in full force, this cave with its massive halls, that are still used today, was home to a hidden speak easy and dance place. Again, could some of the fast times of the people who were drinking and having a good time, left their impressions and voices upon the inner walls?

Well, that is for you decide and for history and the spirits of the cavern walls to answer.

Thank You For The Reviews!

I always appreciate all of you who purchase my books and also leave reviews. As an Indie author, the reviews help in a myriad of ways. Thank you!

I am sharing some of those views with you today.

5 Stars!

"I like how (Cash) wrote about the past and the present it helps to explain the history of the house and its ghostly occupants. This Bedlam house is full of history and antiques that are worth so much more than what Brad and Julie paid for the house." ~Char

"I don't usually read novels about hauntings, but I heard an advertisement for this one on the radio while on my way to work. I don't know, something sparked my interest so I looked it up on Amazon. A very fast read! I couldn't put it down! Tessa is larger than life! One minute she scares you with her jealous rages, the next minute, she is just a sad little girl. Loved all the characters!" ~Connie

" Michael Phillip Cash has a rich imagination, a gift that comes from being grounded and secure with life as being lived. And it is precisely that connect differentiating the impending River Styx and life as we are living it that separates the book from his other very successful novellas. RISEN is the third and final book of THE BATTLE FOR DARRANCIA series and as the two preceding parts if the series (SCHISM and COLLISION) places us on another planet and introduces completely fictional characters belabored with difficult names that drive the reader into a world confined to the region between the covers of the well-designed book. Readers committed to the space related Sci-Fi genre will likely love the book. For this reader this series steps out of focus, leaving any relationship to matters about which we can become concerned, thoughts that remain with us because they relate to where we struggle, where we win, and where we want to return. Technically well written, RISEN finally affects the reader in a different manner than the first two books." ~Grady

" ...these are not your normal everyday characters! Oh no! Michael Phillip Cash will not allow them to wallow in their despair, will he? No! As, I have mentioned in previous reviews, Cash has a way with his characters and they are really a strong part of his stories. This is one reason I so enjoy his books. King V'Sair and Zayden are strong warrior characters and evil can't win over good, can it? This book is action-packed and I couldn't put it down until I was finished. It was intriguing and I was very satisfied with the ending to this trilogy." ~Beachcity Mom

Stillwell is considered to be a horror story, but in reality, it is a well-written story of love and caring.  The strength of this novel is its phenomenal grasp of the characterization.  Each person is realistic with daily struggles looking for any positive aspect in their lives as they move through their grief.
Michael Phillip Cash grew up and continues to live in his beloved Long Island creating wonderful horror stories that are more than blood and gore but show the best of humanity.

The Reviews Are In!

I am always very appreciative of all of you who purchase my books and leave reviews for them. I wanted to take some time to share some of those reviews from my latest book, The Flip.

So grateful!
~Michael Phillip Cash

"I found this to be a rather fun and quick read as once you start reading you are going to be asking yourself am I the crazy one? I truly enjoyed it and would recommend it as a good read." ~Shelley

"Michael Phillip Cash, has taken an innocent house flipping venture and turned it into a terrifying escapade. To be inside this man's brain would be downright scary if not crafty, and divisive."~Jalynn

"This has a light romance thing happening but not enough to push it into a new genre. You will have to read into the book a bit before it starts to kick into gear. I did not have to check under my bed after reading this, but I did not like the eerie feeling I got either. Bottom line here is if you like a bit of intimate spooks and house flipping then this book is for you." ~Cassandra

"I liked this book, I liked the paranormal activity that was present in it. It was quite creepy and scary at times. The author did a great job with character development as the story moved along. It intertwines, the living and the dead, throwing in marital problems, partly caused by the spirits. It's both creepy and interesting at the same time, and I liked how it ended. This book will definitely hold your attention." ~Shirley

"I love a story that draws me in so completely, that I forget my own surroundings. The Flip is one of those stories. I started reading and was completely sucked out of my own time, feeling like I was there with the characters and watching their story unfold. Whenever I had to stop reading, it was like being pulled back into my dimension. I had to blink and regain my sense of where I was.

I found myself smiling, scowling, becoming frightened, and my heart beating faster in reaction to the emotions the characters were experiencing as the story made it's various twists and turns." ~Lisa

5 Stars:

"I've worked on a couple of houses in which I've heard unexplained noises. I've heard footsteps, voices, seen shadows, and much more. Reading this book made me feel like I was back in some of those houses. Thank you Michael for re-instilling some of that long forgotten fear. Haha.
Now, many people might not find this book scary. There's not any really horrific scenes in it. Not a whole bunch of murder and gore like many of the paranormal and horror books I've read. In fact, if I had never experienced similar ghostly events, I probably wouldn't find it too scary either. That is what I liked the most about this book though. It made the book more interesting to me, WAY more real." ~Niki T.

"While I'm not normally a fan of the Horror / Paranormal genre, I found ‘The Flip", to be a very enjoyable read. The characters are very well developed, the dialog and scenes are creative and extremely engaging.

Cash's smoothly flowing storyline of a newly married couple 'flipping' a rundown and creepy old house is filled with plenty of paranormal goings-on, and I found it to be an engrossing read. I was pulled in well before the end of the first chapter - and eagerly turning the pages to find out what, exactly, was going on in that house..." ~Catherine

"The Flip is another of Michael Phillip Cash’s creative forays into the world of the supernatural that may have you jumping at every strange sound you hear, at least for an hour or two, late at night, in the dark… then again, you may be a romantic that loves a good love story from beyond! Either way, Mr. Cash has done it again, with just enough scary to have you looking out of the corner of your eye for movement, just enough tension to put a stamp of reality on being a house flipper, and more than enough writing genius to keep you glued to each page! He has built a world that feels real as we follow him through each dark hall and around every unknown corner. His characters are so well-developed; you can picture them in your mind and “hear” their words!" ~Dii

5 stars

"I entered the world of science fiction once again with The Battle for Darracia. I found this an explosive story once I collided with this book. The words could not fly off the pages fast enough. To say the least the author has presented me with another page turner." ~Patricia

"Collision is a well written story from the heart. His characters you will respect, fall in love with, and laugh with. Mr. Cash has a way with words to actually put you in the characters shoes, and let you feel what they feel. What would you do next, and then you're reading about it. Collision is such a perfect title for this amazing story! I cannot wait to read what he has in store for us next. Mr. Cash has a way with words with his pictorial writing. I felt like I was right there with this young man who is now looking for the killer of his father to bring him to justice. His Uncle's overthrow of his kingdom took a very hard blow to the Prince now king, and yet his beloved Hilde was also slain killed by a psychotic brother as she protected him from a death blow of a Fireblade." ~Marie

"“Collision” is not your average sci-fi book. The author presents a vision of parallel fictional worlds suffering from deteriorating economic conditions, different customs, and greed for power. Cash combines a riveting story line with metaphorical visualizations keeping the reader turning pages and wondering what is going to happen next." ~Bernie

5 stars

"He draws us into his drama with suspense, a clear and deep characterization of the people in his novel, and he inserts subtle psychological assessments on relationships." ~Israel

"I just finished this sci-thriller and I thoroughly enjoyed every page. I'm even more pleased with the fact that there is a second book to continue the drama. I truly hate when a story I love ends. I'm already reading the second book in less than two weeks!!! the fantastical story line is believable. when I read a really good book... I forget that I'm reading and I am there, inside the world created by the author. that was the case in Schism. I flew with them, I fought beside them, I journeyed with them..." ~Cher

Reviews!

5 Stars!
"Michael Phillip Cash delivers a thrilling, entertaining story that is not only made for the big-screen, but is phenomenal in every aspect. I enjoyed this gripping story so much, I had to read twice. "STILLWELL" grabbed my attention in the first chapter, and is indeed one of those books we label as an 'all-nighter.' I was drawn into the story immediately for a few reasons. One reason was that after residing in Long Island 45 years, I found the setting in this riveting story to be picture-perfect. As I read on, I could see the fog, and feel the mist in the cold air, as if I was at the manor. Most important, the author has a gift, which is his unique imagination, capable of drawing the reader in like a magnet as we experience a roller-coaster ride of emotions. The quality of Michael Phillip Cash's creativity is nothing less than 'impressive." ~Geraldine

"Like many books the title does not convey how this story can draw you in, wanting to know more, until you finish the final page. I liked this book for a couple of reasons. First it was not overdone with the paranormal. The haunting added to the story but did not overwhelm the story it played a supporting role. It is a book about a normal person dealing with things that are normally beyond our senses. Second, at the end of the book I felt satisfied. The different story lines entwined together and were brought to a close with nothing left hanging." ~Captiii

"Cash's writing is clean and smooth and his descriptions so vivid you can feel every emotion Paul Russo is having. The scenarios are realistic and even when things venture into the paranormal the author is able to keep it believable and the story flows seamlessly. Secondary characters are well thought out and make the tale that much richer.

It's entertaining and thought provoking with a perfect dose of the paranormal and mystery. A love so strong it transcends time and an excellent and somewhat surprising ending makes Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island one of the good ones and well worth your time." ~Terrylynn

5 Stars!
"This is one of those books that you can read very quickly because it keeps your interest the entire time! This tree has seen much and is haunted by cursed souls. I love how all of the stories are related, though the original story about the "witch" was my favorite part of the tale. This is a great book to read at any time of the year, but it would be especially fun to read at Halloween." ~Christy

"Author Michael Phillip Cash, in addition to providing an intriguing paranormal novella, addresses the question whether or not we are victims of past events or if we have the ability to control our own destiny.

This begins the karmic attachment to the tree of five individuals. Readers will want to know if Arielle will give into macho Chad's sexual demands, and if the curse will ever be broken- how and by who?

Best selling author Michael Phillip Cash is a master of fantasy, suspense and the paranormal. It's a stimulating read which kept this reader glued to the pages." ~B.

5 Stars!

"What would you do if any type of bug invades and takes over the world?

WOW....I am speechless. I also lost a nights sleep due to not wanting to put this book down. This book was creepy, and yet extremely addictive. It's not your normal Paranormal Horror Story, but a horror story that could actually happen.

This story is phenomenally well written and very fast paced. Each page turned just sucked me farther into the story. I was shocked and intrigued by the twists and turns of the book. This author has a way to make you feel like you are watching a movie in your head while reading this story and this author also has a way to keep you entertained and yet on the edge of your seat from beginning to end." ~Jenny

"The build up of this book was unbearable... but in the best of ways. The impending cicada invasion was not to be taken lightly in this story. With a family about to start anew with a new born child, who would actually take something like a brood of cicada seriously when they were so happy? The outcome is not what was expected from this young, new couple. Keeping you on the edge of your page, this book was exciting to say the least!" ~Andrew

Brood X Reviews!

Brood X was my very first novel published in 2013. I am grateful that people are still purchasing and reading the book. Here are some recent reviews. Thank you as always!

5 stars!
"I can't imagine bugs all over. Swarming. ACK, right? Well, this book brings you right there but the book is in today's times. The main characters in the book, a couple named Seth and Lara, are thrown back in to the stone age! They have no electricity, internet, cell phone service. Nothing. Okay, so besides that, bigger issues arise like food and water supply! This book brings you right there with them as the invasion happens. Trillions of insects take over the summer." ~Deborah D.

"WOW....I am speechless.

This author has a way to make you feel like you are watching a movie in your head while reading this story and this author also has a way to keep you entertained and yet on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

*CAUTION* This story is not for the faint of heart, so READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED!" ~JennyB.

4 Stars!
"If you don't like creepy crawly things, you might not make it through this book. The cicadas are here... they are big, mean and they're breeding...everywhere.

Fast paced with strong language, well developed characters and enough scenes with the creepy crawlies to make you sleep with the light on for the rest of your life, Brood X by Michael Phillip Cash is one book I'm glad is marked under fiction.... or is it....?" ~TerryLynn

"Oh, I usually hate books about bugs. No really, but something about this book really made me want to read it. I don’t think I will ever go back outside “peacefully”. This book has a little bit of it all: pregnancy, marriage, humor, friendship, interesting, grossed out, etc. There is definitely enough in this book to keep you turning the pages, and to keep you on your toes, with your ears tuned in. Michael let the book gradually build into the setting, giving us a better understanding of what will happen. I personally think if it wasn’t for the gradual build than the reader would lose understanding, so I think he did a great job with timing it out perfectly." ~WJ

Stillwell And The Hanging Tree!

Today I continue on with some more reviews. This time I am shedding some light on my books The Hanging Tree and  Stillwell.

5 Stars!

"A black cat, an ages old curse, murder, an evil witch hunter and more. How could I resist liking this novella? The short answer is that I couldn't. This was an immediately engaging tale that starts with the murder of a cunning woman and her granddaughter in the 1600's. From this evil seed sprang The Hanging Tree." ~BirdieTracy

"Michael Phillip Cash delivers a haunting, unforgettable paranormal tale with enough mysterious twists-and-turns that will place you on the edge of your seat, until the final curtains close. This incredible suspense Masterpiece, made for the big screen, turns a short novella into an explosive dynamic psychological thriller, highlighting every twisted detail to perfection. The author's fascination with horror writing, combined with his motivation for challenge, creates a breathtaking story that will blow your mind." ~Geraldine A.

4 Stars!

"The dark motif centers around unjust deaths and a family curse. The foreboding beat is furthered by two tragic tales, hinted histories amongst the Hanging Tree's denizens, brief supernatural activities, and a building foreshadowing of bleak things to come. Indeed, it is the anxiety over what is anticipated as a dark outcome and it's sudden climatic drum beat resolution that finds the foreboding fugue now a fading note of slightly corny sweetness. However, Cash does it in a way that leaves THE HANGING TREE satisfactorily complete within both plots. No hanging story threads here." ~Tinfoot

"This short novella drew me in quickly, with the background on the various characters and the reasons they are all tied together. It's written with great imagery, especially the parts about Goody Bennett, and I wish more of the book had been about her. The ending comes as a surprise, but left me thinking "of course! Now it all makes sense!" ~Lisa K.

5 Stars!
"There are lots of fictional historical aspects along with some non-fiction components which Michael mentions at the end of the book. It is awesome how everything came together and had me on the edge of my seat with my heart pounding. The book was a super quick read for me and I was able to finish it in just one sitting. Once I started I couldn't stop reading and when the book came to an end, I was satisfied." Savannah M.

"The author's writing style is superb, the characters are well defined, the plot development might appear to move a little slow but it builds speed and gushes with terror near the end. I think Author Michael Phillips Cash has done a great job. " ~Nancy

4 Stars!
"The characters were sincere: the death of the 'love of your life' and mother to your children, and how this family copes. But on top of that there involves psychics, hauntings, and ghost, oh my. This story is about acceptance in the face of tragedies, and how some people can achieve happiness with the strength to 'just let go'." ~CL Coffman
