2016 LOS ANGELES BOOK FESTIVAL NAMES “WITCHES” FOR TOP HONORS

LOS ANGELES_ The 2016 Los Angeles Book Festival has named a supernatural thriller as the grand prize winner of its annual competition honoring the best of world publishing.

Michael Phillip Cash’s “Witches Protection Program” follows disgraced law enforcement agent Wes Rockville, who is reassigned to a 232-year-old secret government organization, the Witches Protection Program. His first task: uncover a billion-dollar cosmetics company’s plan to use witchcraft for global domination.

The fun, breezy young adult read has definite franchise possibilities, catching the judging eye for its wit and interesting premise. Phillips and other authors and publishers will be honored at a private dinner in Los Angeles.

2015 Finalist for Thriller & Suspense

Foreword Reviews' INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards Finalists

2015 Finalist for Thriller & Suspense

I Get Blamed for Everything.

The other day a nice woman told me I made her cry. It wasn’t long after that that a lady told me I almost ran her off the road, making her nearly have an accident. And today I got an email. It was short. It said, “Sarah, you’re cruel.”
I’m not a jerk. I promise.
I’m a writer.
And my stories affect people. They make people laugh, and cry, and feel, and nearly miss their exit. And I’m not sure how to feel about this. I’ll tell you one thing, I don’t feel bad. To make another person feel something outside themselves, that’s the ultimate goal as a writer.
If you tell me I made you miss your Tube stop, I apologize. I’m sorry for your misfortune. I’m sorry that you have this inconvenience in your life. However, if I took you out of your reality, made you pause in a new one, then I’m grateful.
I’m not responsible for major marketing campaigns. I’m not an executive of some sales department. I’m an author. And if I’m doing my job, then I’m making you forget about yours.

Now watch the bloody road, would you?

Is this the mother of all hangovers or is something bigger happening?

Reviews

"Cash never shies away from tough topics and themes; however, in The History Major his exploration of certain thematic elements goes deeper than usual. His love of history combined with a keen sense of human nature has provided a riveting story that deals with trauma, grief, acceptance, and finding inner strength. Cash has created a multi-dimensional experience between plot and character through the exploration of dreams and historical figures. He has created a riveting sense of perplexity that lingers long after the last page and author's note." - Bianca Schulze, Book Reviewer

"Cash intermingles beauty and violence ...It's smartly ambiguous and open to interpretation, and some may delight in a second (or third) read." - Kirkus Reviews
" ...it is clear this talented author is able to entertain his readers across genres beyond horror fiction. The work is short yet poignant..." Lemon Bee Blogspot
"The History Major is a thriller, a mystery, a conundrum, a psychological study, a narrative on the brink of embracing horror (occasionally tipping but never quite remaining there), a lesson in history....Reading it is rather like seeing a Dali painting for the first time; every detail seems correct, but then the ultimate wrongness of the scene penetrates....Perhaps the closest literary cousin is Ambrose Bierce's superlative 1890 short story, "An Occurrence Owl Creek Bridge,..." Michael Collings Collingsnotes

5 Stars Foreword Review Clarion
"Concise but not hurried or thoughtless, The History Major, a novella from Michael Phillip Cash, packs a powerful punch. The first day of school has never wreaked such havoc, as sinners and saints sit side by side and a troubled student studies the past in an effort to understand the present and embrace the future." Pallas Gates McCorquodale Foreword Review
